DeSantis: Education Not Indoctrination, YouTube, Fox News

In a recent Fox News broadcast on YouTube, Florida mother and mental health professional January Littlejohn shared the story behind the parental rights lawsuit that helped ignite a national movement. The discussion centered around parental exclusion in gender-related decisions at school and the urgent need to restore parents’ fundamental role in their children’s lives.
School Secretly Meets With Daughter
During the pandemic, January’s teenage daughter expressed gender confusion after several peers came out as transgender. Weeks later, the daughter revealed she had been asked by school officials which restroom she preferred to use during a meeting January was never informed about. When she contacted the school, she was told that due to nondiscrimination policies, she was not entitled to any information—policies that effectively positioned her as a potential danger to her child.
Represented by Vernadette Broyles, President of the Child & Parental Rights Campaign (CPRC), January filed a federal lawsuit against the school district. The case has since become a symbol of the broader fight for parental rights nationwide. Broyles, who was present at the Fox News town hall event, emphasized the constitutional and legal protections afforded to parents and noted that this case is part of a disturbing nationwide trend of school districts actively concealing life-altering decisions from parents.
Defending the Family’s Role in Education
Governor DeSantis joined the conversation, denouncing the Biden administration's stance that students “belong to all of us” while in the classroom. He underscored that in Florida, parents—not school systems—have the primary responsibility for their children’s education and well-being. DeSantis reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to academic transparency and age-appropriate curriculum, drawing a clear boundary against what he described as ideological indoctrination.
Both Broyles and Littlejohn stressed that this movement is not an attack on any group of children but a defense of the parent-child relationship and the right of families to guide their children’s development without government interference.
