Former Employee of St. Louis Transgender Clinic Reaffirms Allegations of Misconduct, Missouri Independent, Annelise Hanshaw

In an article for Missouri Independent, Annelise Hanshaw highlights the reaffirmed claims of Jamie Reed, a former case manager at the Washington University Transgender Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Reed, who worked at the clinic for four years, has publicly restated allegations of serious misconduct in the care of minors undergoing gender transition treatments.
Inadequate Assessments and Disputed Practices
Reed contends that most minors were placed on cross-sex hormones without thorough mental health evaluations, contradicting the university’s defense that her claims were unsubstantiated. According to Reed, over two-thirds of patients seen by prescribers received medications, a much higher rate than officially acknowledged. She was not interviewed during the internal investigation and questions the university’s reliance on standards from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), which she characterizes as more ideological than scientific.
Legal Advocacy and Parental Consent Measures
Jamie Reed is represented by Vernadette Broyles, President and General Counsel of the Child & Parental Rights Campaign (CPRC), alongside CPRC's Senior Litigation Counsel and St. Louis County Council member Ernie Trakas. They argue that existing standards and procedures violate the rights of parents and put children at risk. Following public outcry, the university has since implemented new policies requiring written parental consent and custody documentation before prescribing puberty blockers or hormones to minors.
